I have had the navigation system for over 2 years and have moved like 4 times state to state due to business and cant remember the pin or the location. How can i reset the whole system. I have called tech support and they will charge me 100 to get it
So far there is no way to reset the password. It is stored in an area that is protected from the normal USB interface possible a dedicated memory chip or with the rest of the protected operating system. At present there is only manual brute force, trying
I picked up this unit from Costco's. NUVI 1390 LMT has been everywhere, and large I agree with the positive evaluation of this model, the most favorable comments. Here, I focus only on the negatives.
1390 (I know, may be the 13xx model line) shortages, the region is that it will not allow the user to pre-set start and end. In contrast, 1390 is expected to navigate from the current physical location. For example, if you plan to fly places, and to draw the route from the airport to the hotel, you can not do easily in advance. It is not impossible, but to do this, you must open the GPS receiver on the map to find your destination, find some way to the place you are interested in, reset home, that position, find an endpoint, Then try to navigate. I know I missed something here, but this is the concept of things. In short, the interface design, support equipment, planning for the future of travel in a remote location use. As far as I know, the other Garmin devices support this feature....
Your Garmin device can store a lot of information and history. It stores waypoints, tracks, routes, custom POIs, etc.. and most important your home address. So it is better to keep it secure at all times. In cases where the unit is stolen, there should be a layer of protection on the unit itself so as not to give away your identity. Not to worry though, as this feature is built into your Garmin GPS device. Known as Garmin Lock, this feature works by requiring the user to input a four digit PIN number before the GPS becomes operational. Meaning, the PIN code is required to start-up and use the device. Without the PIN the GPS receiver is just another electronic paperweight. Although this doesn't prevent the GPS from being stolen, it is a security feature that prevents the theif from getting your personal information and other pertinent data from your device. Garmin Lock has another feature -- the Secure Location. The secure location enables you to access the GPS without entering the PIN (in case you forget it). The secure location is not really a security feature in the real sense of the word. It is a bypass to the security of the Garmin Lock itself. But even with the secure location, the forgotten PIN could not be reset. So make sure never to forget this PIN code when considering on enabling this feature.
