Lincoln runner Bridget Easley never used to be that into the gear of the sport. A bare-bones running watch was enough for her. 

But as she got more competitive, she needed more precision. How fast was that run? Was it faster than yesterday's? That run two weeks ago?

About a year back, she bought a Garmin Forerunner 405, a model of GPS-enabled sports watch. It gives her the details of her run: her mile splits, her pace, her incline, pretty much anything she wants. After a run, she uploads the data to her computer and digs in.

“It started out that I was just curious to see what I was doing on my runs,” she said. “Now it’s my training partner. For the long runs, it’s just me against my Garmin.”
